You don’t need a certain holiday to celebrate your health, right? Every day is a holiday and full of celebrations when you have good physical fitness, and the same goes for your oral health.
Consider adding the following healthy options to your daily meals to maintain good oral and improve your general wellbeing.
Not everything you eat may be good for your oral health, and delicious foods are, unfortunately, not always healthy. Oily and fat foods can do more damage to your teeth than you can imagine.
Below given are some varieties of food and drinks you should consume to maintain good oral health:
Nutritious Foods
A healthy smile starts with a balanced diet. Fresh fruits, leafy vegetables, lean meats, and dairy add nutritional value to your diet. On the other hand, try to avoid oily fast foods, which may be appetizing but bad for your teeth and stomach.
Water
You must know by now how valuable water is to our overall health. Water is the most important drink for your overall well-being. As for your oral health, it helps keep your mouth clean and increases saliva production for added protection against cavities and decay.
Here are some foods and drinks you should avoid:
Sugary Foods and Drinks
Modern diets are full of sugar. Nearly all processed foods contain sugar, as do most soft drinks and energy drinks. Sugar feeds the bacteria in our mouths that, in turn, produce acids that attack our tooth enamel. They also lead to plaque and tartar buildup.
Cake, candy, sodas, cookies, pies, all fall under this category. Bread, cereal, and pretzels also contain high amounts of sugar and can cause tooth decay if consumed regularly.
Acidic Foods
Many fruits like oranges, lemons, or cranberries have a high acidic content. You should not completely avoid consuming them as they have nutritional value. You should, however, wait for half an hour or more before brushing your teeth to protect them from acid attacks.
